Wound Healing Activity of Avocado Peel Ointment against Second Degree Burn Wound

Burns are a form of tissue damage or loss due to contact with heat sources such as fire, hot water, chemicals, electricity, and radiation. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of burn healing using avocado peel methanol extract by evaluating wound contraction parameters and epithelialization period. In the experiment, 25 white rats were divided into 5 groups (5 mice each): control (base ointment), standard (MEBO), followed by avocado peel extract ointment 5%, 10%, and 15%, respectively. Phytochemical examination showed that the extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins, and glycosides. The total phenol, flavonoid, and tannin content of the methanol extract of avocado peel were 59.55 GAE mg/gram, 2.96 QE mg/gram, and 22.63 TAE mg/gram, respectively. Wound contraction parameters showed a significant difference between treatments on the 9th and 12th days where the P-value <5. While the epithelialization period did not show a significant difference where the P value>5. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that avocado peel extract ointment has excellent burn healing activity.
