A Hybrid Method Based on SLM and Exponential Companding Technique to Reduce the Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in an OFDM System

Despite being the most auspicious technique for existing as well as next-generation wireless communication system having wide application and huge advantages, the overall system performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) deteriorates due to high peak to average power ratio (PAPR). Different methods are recommended by the researchers to minimize the effect of high PAPR which may provide significant PAPR reduction but adversely affect the bit error rate (BER) performance. In this paper, we propose a hybrid method by combining exponential companding and selected mapping (SLM) technique. The improvement in PAPR reduction performance of the proposed hybrid method is analyzed by comparing it with the existing techniques for different subcarriers. Moreover, the BER performance of the hybrid method is also found satisfactory.
