Steering Scheme of Electric Vehicle with In-Wheel Motors

In order to solve the accident problem when the vehicle was turning at a high speed, the steering of the in-wheel motors driven electric vehicle was studied. First, the working principle of the hub-type permanent magnet brushless DC motor was studied. The drive control scheme of the motor was selected. Then, by analyzing the advantages of the electronic differential technology, the overall control scheme of the electronic differential system was determined. Finally, the steering test of four in-wheel motors driven electric vehicles was carried out to verify its feasibility. The results show that the most suitable control scheme for in-wheel motors driven electric vehicle steering was motor voltage control. The electronic differential control ensured that the electric vehicle met the differential principle when steering. Therefore, the four wheels are independently driven by the four motors matched thereto, which can effectively reduce the steering force of the driver and improve the portability of the steering. At the same time, when the car relies on electronic differential steering, the variable speed characteristics of each wheel ensure a certain sense of road feedback. The driver knows the road information and the state of motion of the vehicle. The safety of in-wheel motors driven electric vehicles has been improved.
