The Design and Implementation of an Oscillator Chip with Negative Resistance

Conventional chips directly use resistors as loads, which consume a lot of power and resistors occupy a large area. Aiming at the shortcomings of the traditional Pierce oscillator, this paper designs a low power consumption and high stability crystal oscillator chip based on 0.35m CMOS technology, and improves the circuit structure of the oscillator by analyzing the method of negative resistance oscillation principle. The designed crystal oscillator chip consists of an oscillation circuit, a chip buffer circuit, a frequency divider circuit and an output driver circuit. The simulation results show that when the crystal oscillator frequency is 15.9MHZ, the circuit oscillates within 0.6ms, the output waveform is very stable, the maximum range of the voltage controlled oscillator is ±181ppm, and the power consumption of the oscillation circuit is as low as 3.2mW.
