Sketch-based Human Motion Retrieval via Shadow Guidance

Retrieving human motions is laborious and time-consuming because retrieving motions is not intuitive. In this work, we propose a sketch-based user interface for users to search the expected motions. First, we extract joint trajectories of skeletal motion data and construct a database. Second, the system searches for relevant motions in the database according to the query sketch results in real-time and generates shadow guidance that guides the freeform sketching of the trajectories. In addition, we performed a comparative study to evaluate the utility and effectiveness of the proposed user interface. It was verified that the proposed interface can capture users' retrieval intention which helps them retrieve motion data more intuitively.
