The Incidental Music Effector for Picture Books

In this study, we constructed a book shape multi-effector device for electric guitar to realize incidental ad-lib performance for reading around picture books. The multi-effector can be switched by the reader's page turning for the picture book. Also electric guitar acoustic effects and the acoustic effect sets are able to be created according to the story. In actual storytelling sessions using this multi-effector device, the electric guitar sounds changes accompaniment in accordance with the story. The incidental guitar improvisation, which is affected by the sound, also changes at the same time. This means that the reader intervenes with the incidental music. In order to realize this multi-effector device, we developed a switch mechanism that allows the user to switch effects by turning the pages of the book. In addition, we made it possible to set a loop for each page in order to accommodate a wide range of storylines.
