Experimental and numerical simulation study on the lifting and diffusion of explosion cloud

Lifting and diffusion of the explosion cloud is an essential process for evaluation of the so-called dirty bomb. In this work, we have performed an experimental work on the explosion cloud of 30kg TNT equivalent, and obtained the morphological characters during the lifting process of the explosion cloud. 3D numerical simulation is also implemented on the lifting and diffusion process of the explosion cloud, as well as the diffusion feature for the aerosol particles by using two-phase flow methodology on basis of the discrete model. The simulation results demonstrate that the variation law for height of the explosion cloud is in agreement the experimental data.
