Study on Fast-Charging Strategy of High-Power Hybrid Energy Storage Source

The high-power hybrid energy storage (HES) source is the main pulse power supply of the electromagnetic launch weapons (EMLW). The study of its fast-charging strategy can further improve the response efficiency and combat capability of the weapon system. This paper discusses the limitations in solving the problems of repeatability and fast charging of the EMLW. Based on the overview of the current status of the high-power HES technology, a fast-charging strategy for the "super-capacitor + pulse capacitor" HES is proposed. The circuit simulation model is established, and the simulation results show that this topology can realize the rapid energy transmission of 4.5MJ in 0.2 seconds (average power 22.5MW). On the basis of the simulation research, the advantages, disadvantages and key technical problems of the proposed fast-charging strategy are discussed. The research is of great significance for rapid-firing application of the small EMLW.
