A Review of Integrated Modular Motor Drive for Medium-Voltage Motors

With increased requirements for high reliability, high power density and fault tolerance in medium voltage motor drive, integrated modular motor drive (IMMD) offers an effective option. However, appropriate topologies and control methods should be considered according to different application requirements. This paper reviews existing IMMD topologies for medium voltage motors and summarizes their features. Hardware design of IMMD which includes the selection of capacitors, thermal design and integration categories is provided. The power devices and sensors fault tolerance methods are also investigated.
