Structural loads suppression for floating offshore wind turbine via Optimized Pitch Control

Considering the drastic wave in the sea lead to fatigue loads, which would deteriorate the performance of the floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT), an optimized pitch controller is adopted to decrease the structural loads in this study. The complex coupled model is firstly established for the semi-submersible FOWT. Subsequently, a series of simulation experiments are carried out based on the proposed coupled model. Simulation results demonstrate that the pitch controller based on particle swarm optimization results in more stable power output and less structural loads than ordinary controller.
