Comparison of Piece-Wise and full CFR for OFDM (LTE, 5G beyond), WCDMA, and DVB-S2X signals

Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) reduction techniques also known as Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) techniques have been very useful approaches for many signals such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) based signals such as used in Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and 5G systems, Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) signals, and Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) for Satellite Communication Systems (DVB-S2X). Although applying CFR techniques generally results in efficiency improvement of transmission, however, there are always cost of complication and time delays involved, which limit its performance and the outcome varies from case to case. Here a comparison is carried out in order to present that the performance of the two most popular CFR techniques of Clipping and Filtering (CF) and Peak Shrinking and Interpolating (PSI) technique on three different signals of OFDM, WCDMA, and DVB-S2X is more feasible when Piece-Wise (PW) approach is employed compared to conventional/traditional full application.
