Eddy Current Damping Suppression of Long Primary Linear Synchronous Motor

This paper concerns the analysis and suppression method of eddy current induced in the water-cooled plate. Eddy current is generated by time-varying current in the armature and the back EMF caused by moving magnets in the water-cooled plate. It produces a damping force, which influences the motor's dynamic characteristic. In this paper, a new method is introduced to suppress eddy current by current vector synthesis. The new structure has been analyzed using 3D FEM and the results show that the new method has a good effect of suppressing eddy currents.
