Quality of service in networks with self-similar traffic

In this paper we compare the quality of service (QoS) of the queuing disciplines Priority Queuing (PQ), Custom Queuing (CQ), Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ), Class-Based Weighted Fair Queueing (CBWFQ) and Low-Latency Queuing (LLQ), with self-similar and long-range dependent traffic, through experimental measurements with routers in a simulation computer environment using GNS3 and Wireshark. We take into account two different classes of traffic: real-time (video streaming) and non-real-time (FTP) and we use, in the router configuration, the information obtained from the Norros model for the traffic classes. In each of the queuing disciplines we measure the mean jitter and the packet loss for the video streaming traffic and the average throughput for FTP traffic. In the proposed scenario, the CQ discipline using the respective calculated Norros capacities is the one that best adapted both types of traffic as a compromise solution.
