Thermodynamic Modelling of the Oil Tank as a Subsystem in Hydraulic Power Drives

The oil tank is a major component of every hydraulic drive and control systems. It also plays an important role for high-voltage transformers in electrical power distribution grids. This paper submits a thermodynamic approach for modeling the processes in the oil tank by accounting for the dynamic response of the measuring equipment - a precise digital thermometer. The dynamic block diagram is composed and the corresponding transfer functions are derived. An experiment is conducted and the results are compared with the results from a numerical simulation of the proposed model. The comparison showed good convergence between experiment and simulation.
