Grid Tied SPV System with Combined LMS-LMF Algorithm for VSC Control

In this paper, authors have implemented a combined LMS (Least Mean Square)-LMF (Least Mean Fourth) algorithm for VSC control on a 11-kW grid tied Solar PV System. The reference currents generated by the LMSLMF algorithm are send to hysteresis current controller which after comparing them with the grid currents generate the gate pulses for VSC (Voltage Source Converter). The simulations using the developed algorithm are carried out on MATLAB Simulink software using Sim Power System toolbox for both linear and nonlinear loads at various conditions like irradiation change, load addition and unbalanced load considering one phase out. The combined LMS-LMF based algorithm is also compared with the LMS algorithm in terms of peak overshoot and settling time. The system was found to be adapting well according to the applied changes showing its robust nature. The results are within the IEEE standards i.e., harmonics in grid current are <5%.
