South Wales Transformers— a member of the South Wales Group — has installed a a1.2 million volt impulse generator at its Port Elizabeth factory for testing transformers and switchgear. South Wales Tansformers already has at its disposal a 15 MVA 3 phase 11/6 kV alternator for testing locally manufactured transformers. With these testing facilities the South Wales Group can now cary out the most up-to-date testing of equipment. The impulse generator has enough capacity for testing any transformer manufactured by South Wales Transformers in Port Elizabeth. The only other similar apparatus in South Africa is in the Transvaal.
