The viscoelasticity of human blood at low shear rate

Using the Low Shear 30 Sinus Rheometer, the authors studied the effects of hematocrit (HCT), plasma concentration and frequency of sinusoidal oscillatory shear flow on the viscoelasticity of human blood. The results demonstrated that the viscous component ( eta ') and the elastic component ( eta ") but increased exponentially when HCT was increased, but eta " more obviously than eta '. When the plasma was diluted and HCT was kept at 45.0+or-0.5%, the mean values of eta ' and eta " decreased linearly, eta ' more quickly than eta ". When the frequency of sinusoidal shear flow was increased, eta ' and eta " decreased exponentially at almost the same rate. The sear elastic modulus G increased, but the relaxation time lambda was reduced exponentially when the frequency was increased. The results could provide a theoretical basis for using viscoelastic parameters of blood in clinical situations.<
