Research of Ways to Improve Radiation Characteristics of Phased Array Radiator Based on Vivaldi Antenna

This paper presents the results of two methods of improving the radiation characteristics of a Vivaldi antenna in phased array. The effect of cutouts and rectangular inserts along sides of antenna are showed. The biggest improvements were obtained using inserts. They allow enlarging the operating frequency band of the radiator on the level of VSWR less than 3 expand from the range from 327 to 840 MHz to the range from 245 to 857 MHz. The overlap ratio was increased from 2.57 to 3.5. These results were obtained with scanning mode in the E-plane in the sector of angles up to ± 60°.
