Study of lightning’s strokes on HV overhead power lines

The main objective of the current study is to analyze how the high voltage overhead power lines behave on lightning direct strokes. Once the lightning strike hits the active conductors, towers and ground wires the transient regimes appear, which are analyzed in the present paper with ATP simulations. Also, using some ATP-models, the insulators flashovers are simulated, using their voltage-time characteristics. These results are being presented, as well as a comparison between them and the basic mathematical model.
