Aspects of Data Models compatibility within Substation hybrid LANs

The aim of this paper is to present various communication protocol conversions aspects and Data Models Mapping compatibility among different communications standards used in a power substation network. At one side is IEC61850 and on the other side are legacy protocols such Modbus RTU, IEC 60870-5-103, IEC 60870-5-101, and its extension IEC 60870-5-104 to suit the complete network access. The Data Models Mapping are translated, either by the bay controller or the substation main communication Server, from a hierarchical and tri-dimensional model of IEC 61850 to a linear-plane data models of legacy protocols, and vice versa.
