Development of a communication simulator for Electric Vehicle charging based on GB/T

Communication among Electric Vehicle (EV), Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and Central Management System (CMS) is crucial for efficient and safe charging of an EV. The Charging process is ensured by globally accepted communication protocols. This article presents the scope and development of a software simulator for EV-EVSE-CMS communication. An interactive simulator will be help in understanding the communication flow during EV charging. It can also be utilized as an aid for educational and training purposes. The communication between EVSE and the incoming EV is based on GB/T, using Controller Area Network (CAN) communication in MATLAB. The communication between EVSE and CMS is implemented using Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP). The design and development of the simulator is discussed in detail.
