Synchronization of Solar PV System to Grid with Enhanced Power Quality

The control of solar photovoltaic (PV) system synchronized to three-phase four-wire grid is presented here. Performance is validated during grid outage mode, solar insolation reduction and unbalancing of loads. When the grid is present, power transfer occurs along with compensation of reactive power and neutral current. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the grid current is in compliance with the IEEE-519 standard thereby guaranteeing satisfactory performance along-with reduction in losses of the distribution network. Moreover, during the grid outage or islanded mode of operation, the power is delivered from solar PV array to the local loads by a voltage controller. The performance is validated though simulation results and the system behaviour is observed for weak grid conditions along with grid outage conditions.
