A glance at noise abatement and control

The essence of noise control is suppression at the source, and the problem of noise abatement should be approached with this object in mind. However, this is unfortunately not always possible, and the solution to a noise problem requires a knowledge and understanding of noise propagation and transmission as well as of its basic nature and the subjective effect on the ear of the listener.
