Fault Analysis Skills in Research and Development of Roof Constructions with Polymer Membrane Shell

Polymer membrane roofs are efficient building constructions which fully comply with the concept of sustainable development. They are architecturally impressive and recyclable. Design omissions and deterioration of the structural elements with time, however, are significant issues. They require training competent specialists to be fixed and mitigated. The following fault analysis skills are considered in the present paper: identifying features which indicate the structural failure, tracking failure propagation throughout the membrane, detecting anomalies in the behavior of the building constructions using artificial neural networks. Fault analysis skills imply teamwork, rather than standalone personal activity. They contribute to firm development of soft skills of the researchers and stimulate using high-level open source software libraries for artificial intelligence applications. Development of fault analysis skills helps the researcher and the project manager to gain an insight into the structural behavior of deteriorated building constructions. It facilitates engineering of preventive measures for avoiding serious damages or even structural collapse.
