Research on Virtual Synchronous Generator Control of Grid-connected Wind Farm with Hybrid Energy Storage

With the increasing penetration of renewable energy power generation such as wind power in the grid, the randomness and fluctuating power of wind power generation have adversely affected the safe and stable operation of the grid. The synchronous generator has the function of regulating the power balance of the system and maintaining the stability of the grid voltage. Therefore, a hybrid energy storage system ( HESS) can be configured for the wind farm, and a control strategy based on a synchronous generator model is adopted for the power conversion system(PCS). Therefore, the energy storage can be equivalent to a virtual synchronous generator (VSG). By controlling the output of hybrid energy storage, the power of the grid-connected tie line is smoother. At the same time, according to load fluctuations, energy storage can absorb or emit power, maintain system frequency and voltage stability, and effectively improve the grid-connected performance of the wind farm. Finally, a system simulation model consisting of wind turbines, hybrid energy storage and micro-turbine generators was established, and the simulation results verified the feasibility of the control strategy.
