Centralized sink clusteringprotocol using Genetic algorithm for lifetime extension in WSNs

The concept of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) plays an essential role in the Internet of Things (IoT). It represents a reliable way of communication and information exchange between ubiquitous smart objects. Also, WSNs have been used tremendously in many applications in recent years. They are deployed to collect valuable information in different environments. Although the limited power and process resources of these networks, they remain a perfect solution in different fields. Energy efficiency is a crucial issue in WSN to minimize the power consumption of the network nodes leading to increasing the network lifetime. Clustering is regarded to be the key method used to prolong the lifespan of the network and to offer more effective functioning procedures. In this paper, a centralized energy-efficient clustering model using the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed. The model aims to minimize the nodes' energy dissipation. The simulation results show a substantial improvement in our proposed protocol compared to Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) and many related works protocols in terms of stability duration and lifetime of the network
