Electric field tuning of the Fano resonance in BaTiO3

Fano resonance is an important spectral feature correlated with complex quantum mechanical states. For the first time, we demonstrate electric field-induced alteration of Lorentz spectral shape to Fano profile in the Raman modes of the ferroelectric BaTiO
₃
. Unlike the conventional explanation of modulating electronic states, we propose a new mechanism involving polarization rotation to control the Fano resonance in ferroelectric BaTiO
₃
. We show that the Fano resonance of BaTiO
₃
emerges from the Slater-Last mode coupling. The present study demonstrates alteration of the Lorentz profile into a Fano lineshape due to local polarization rotation.
