Reliability Assessment of Hydro Dominant Systems with Daily and Monthly Inflow Management

Hydropower daily operation strategy has a great influence on the reliability of power system, while it's difficult to directly optimize a year's or even a month' operation with hourly time interval. And in reality, there is often requirement of monthly average flow in hydropower operation due to ecology, shipping and so on. So, the interaction between the diurnal and monthly scheduling strategies on the flow should be considered in the simulation of reliability evaluation. In this paper, a model of automatically adjusting the range of daily average flow is established, based on the day ahead unit combination. The model is applied to the modified IEEE Reliability Test System, the results show that the model can make full use of the reservoir regulation capacity to improve the system reliability, and ensure the monthly average flow requirements at the same time.
