Methods of Increasing the Energy Storage Density of Superconducting Flywheel

This paper presents methods of increasing the energy storage density of flywheel with superconducting magnetic bearing. The working principle of the flywheel energy storage system based on the superconducting magnetic bearing is studied. The circumferential and radial stresses of composite flywheel rotor at high velocity are analyzed. The optimization methods of the thickness distribution of the flywheel rim and the material selection of the flywheel in the multi-layer interference assembly with a certain size are given and used to maximize the energy storage density. Finally, the improved flywheel model is established, and the maximum energy storage density of the flywheel is increased by combining the above methods.
