Recent developments in glass insulators

It may be considered remarkable that such a brittle substance as glass can be used for general purpose insulators subjected to heavy mechanieal and electrical shock. Developments over the last few years, however, have resulted in so great an improvement in technical procedure that a glass insulator can now be obtained which seems able to compare very favourably both in cost and performance with the best porcelain products. The following remarks show in a general way something of the method of manufacture and performance of these glass insulators.
