Development and Justification of the Algorithm for Spatial Adaptive Suppression of Pulse Interference

Possible approaches to the development of algorithms for adaptive spatial suppression of impulse interference in radars with phased arrays are considered. Situations are considered, when, together with the signals reflected from the targets, the array antenna receives signals from independent sources of pulse interference distributed in space. The phase fronts of radio waves are assumed to be flat. Targets and sources of interference are considered to be point like in angular, which allows the signals coming from them to be considered completely spatially correlated. It is assumed that the conditions of space - time narrowband signals are met. Optimization of spatial processing is formulated as the problem of finding the weight vector corresponding to the maximum of the SNR. Under conditions of a priori uncertainty about the number and characteristics of interfering signals, the estimation of the inverse covariance matrix (or its statistical equivalent) is used to form the weight vectors for the sum and the difference channels. Depending on the method for compilation of covariance matrix, a large variety of adaptive algorithms is possible. Interpretation of spatial suppression methods is the formation of compensation beams in the directions to the sources of interference and subsequent weight summation of the signals of the main and compensation beams. This assumes knowledge (or determination) of the number and angular coordinates of the jammers. This problem can be solved with the help of the interference situation analyzer included in the radar structure. Advantage of the method of spatial adaptation with formation of multiple compensating beams is shown.
