Constructing Legacy and Self-Fulfillment in Aging Process: A Chinese insight

This research explores how a sense of legacy and self-fulfillment contributes to a sense of good old age. Based on a Chinese cultural context in Taiwan, we interview elderly people aged 60 to 80. Our research results show that under the traditional Chinese culture, the sense of legend about the continuation of personal life is unique tp Chinese culture in which the self-legacy and self-realization identified in this research are shown in the liberation of the individual self and family-child groups, rather than limiting the specific completion of the current limited life of the individual at an advanced age. The finding shed light on happiness of good old age and help to inspire the future education and value of senior citizens. Implications of these findings to a cultural challenge of good old age are discussed.
