Simulation of the dynamic cutting force loading on a rotating and feeding spindle

In order to analyze the characteristics of the spindle under the working condition, a method of displacement measurement under the simulated force loading condition and its system is put forward. The dynamic force is loaded by an exciter and the feed motion is followed up. The system is composed of four modules: Dynamic Force Loading, Rotary Loading, Feed Following-up and Displacement Measurement. Rotary loading module simulates the loads on the rotating spindle through a bearing. The simulated force waveforms are generated from a signal generator and input in an exciter to drive the push-pull rod a reciprocating motion to impact the dynamic force onto the spindle. To simulate the continuous load while the feed axis is moving a linear slide carrying the exciter is controlled to move synchronously along with the feed. Displacement under the simulated cutting is obtained by comparing the read between system linear encoder and machine linear encoder. Experiment results show that the system can be used to load the desired dynamic force and to acquire the displacement. Based on the system, both the cutting force induced displacement and the spindle dynamic performance under the working conditions will be studied.
