Abstract:

The need to wash clothes is a task performed in households since the existence of modern humanity. In the last century the development of home appliances has led to washing machines being present in each home. As the number of devices is increasing, the need for efficient products is becoming more and more important. This paper presents an energy efficient topology of powering a washing machine, with the field oriented control (FOC) of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The washing machine needs a low speed-high torque to wash the laundry and a high speed with a lower torque to spin it until dry. These two different specification requirements can be achieved by driving the motor with MTPA (Maximum Torque Per Ampere) and Field Weakening (FW ) strategies.
