Design considerations for a picture archive and communication system (PACS) display station

The design of a system to manage digital images, a picture archive and communication system (PACS), is complex. A PACS development environment has been implemented that is built up from functionally distinct and independent blocks. It allows rapid modification and evaluation of various schemes for automatic image acquisition, reprocessing, display, and archiving from several imaging modalities.
