Tactile Feedback on a Fabric Surface Using Electrovibration

Electrovibration is an electrical actuation method used to create tactile feedback. So far, most of the applications of this method have been on glass or rigid plastic surfaces. However, this method can be used to create haptic information on different surfaces in which human-machine interaction is vital. In this paper, two nonrigid surfaces were selected to examine this idea. All the surfaces were coated with three different layers of Parylene which forms the insulation layer. The Data-driven signal was used to generate haptic feedback. The results showed that relative motion between finger and surface plays an important role in texture perception and these surfaces can be used in different applications such as wearable devices.
