Abstract:
This paper presents a Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) fed amended U-shaped monopole UWB antenna for Surfaces Penetrating (SP) applications. The proposed antenna consists of an amended U-shaped patch with an amputated ground plane for impedance matching and impedance bandwidth enhancement. A UWB operating bandwidth extending from 3.05 GHz to upper than 11 GHz (> 113.17 %) is achieved by the designed antenna. The operating bandwidth was measured by using R&S® ZNB Vector Network Analyzer. The measured result indicates that the suggested antenna works over 4.02 to 10.7 GHz (90.76%). Furthermore, the antenna presents Omni-directional patterns, acceptable values of the gain ranging between 0.55 and 3.54 dBi, and high values of the radiation efficiency of more than 70 %. Consequently, these achieved performances and the easy-to-construct structure make the antenna appropriate for SP applications.
