Generalized Compass Operator for Edge Detection with the Required Angular Orientation

A generalized compass operator for detection on the image straight edges with an arbitrary angular orientation defined by the user is considered. It is shown, that for a mask with a size of 5×5 pixels the considered operator provides a selection of edges with an orientation in the range of ±10 degrees relative to the angle value defined by the user.
