A Calibration Method for Vehicular Dual-channel Radar Doppler Velocimeter with Janus Configuration

Dual-channel radar Doppler velocimeter (RDV) with Janus configuration has been widely used as a vehicular standard speed-measuring instrument for annual verification of traffic speed meters by legal metrology institutes in the field, and is required be calibrated in the laboratory every year to ensure the speed measurement accuracy and reliability. A new calibration method based on the bi-directional Doppler shift simulation is proposed for calibrating the standard instrument using the dual-channel RDV with Janus configuration in this paper. A bi-directional Doppler shift simulation equipment is built to verify the proposed new calibration method. The radial speed range of the simulation equipment is up to (0~400) km/h and the maximum permissible error is ±0.05 km/h, which can meet the requirements for calibrating the vehicular standard speed-measuring instrument in the laboratory. The calibration results of a dual-channel RDV sample validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed new calibration method for the dual-channel RDV with Janus configuration.
