Ultra-Wideband Dielectric Resonator Antennas: Understanding of Modal Analysis

This paper presents a brief review of the development of Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRAs) targeting Ultra-wideband(UWB) bandwidth range by exciting higher resonant modes or a combination of multiple resonant modes. Different schemes that have been tried to excite various modes of the resonator are reported. The expressions for the resonant frequency, fundamental and higher mode configurations of different geometries are stated. The information assists in the selection of the different antenna geometries for the UWB frequency range by generating different order modes for modern communication systems.
