Effective Venipuncture Method for Intravenous Therapy

Identification of Vein before venipuncture or before dosage of intravenous drugs has been a concern to prevent major health disorders. Though vein detection is possible using CMOS CDD Camera and thermal camera, cost required in use of these imagining technique is a concern. We have researched comparatively efficient method to Identify veins before venipuncture or before dosage of intravenous drugs. It is found that Modified Web Camera with NIR LED can be used to acquire image of vein. According to the study quality of images acquired using this technique is comparatively lower than that of the standard technique currently used. We can eliminate this drawback by introducing additional stages of pre-processing techniques like Adaptive histogram equalization and Contrast Stretching to enhance the quality of the image. Once the pre-processing stages is completed the acquired images can used by the physician to recognize the vein.
