Cloud-Based Smart Manufacturing: Implementation in Food Industry

The manufacturing system of the next generation demands intelligence, flexibility and the ability to have the quality of being interoperable. The heart of Industry 4.0 - based system is an environment called Smart Factory which fosters automation and self-optimization. It brings in new elements that changes the traditional manufacturing by integrating the current requirements. The notion of Smart Manufacturing can be aided by employing Cloud Computing. Cloud computing based manufacturing blends the hardware and software assets altogether forming a new paradigm. In this paper, cloud manufacturing has been implemented by making use of function blocks (FB) in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based operations. Three deployment models of cloud-based Distributed Process Planning (DPP) service are investigated and one of them has been employed to achieve the concept of smart factory. The proposed framework is applicable in PLC-based unit of food industry.
