Abstract:

This paper provides a short review on different types of modulation published in open literature by different authors and re-evaluate the performance of the commonly used modulation techniques such as Phase Shift Keying (PSK), Differential Phase Shift Keying(D-PSK), Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) in optical communication system. The QAM performs better among these modulation schemes in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER).The environment of different modulation techniques in optical communication has been created using Opti-system software followed by description of typical systems and corresponding performance evaluation. This study will provide a guide to choose an appropriate modulation scheme for optical communication.
