Electromagnetic Force Improvement of the Double-PM Modular Linear Doubly Salient Machine by PM sizing

Double-permanent magnet (PM) modular linear doubly salient machine (DPM-LDSM) with sizing the PM at the opening slot and primary yoke for enhancing the open circuit electrical performances are presented. The output characteristics consisting of the magnetic distribution, phase flux linkage, and electromagnetic force (EMF) were characterized by the 2-D finite element method. It was verified that both the opening slot and primary yoke PM sizing influence the variation of the phase flux linkage. Particularly, the phase EMF obtained by the DPM-LDSM with the opening slot PM height of 4 mm and the primary yoke PM thickness of 3 mm is about 14.28% higher than conventional PM size because of the supplemented magnetic distribution from both PM positions and a suitable stator slot area. Hence, the DPM-LDSM with 4 mm of the opening slot PM height and 3 mm of the primary yoke PM thickness can suitably be utilized as the generator prototype for low-speed wind energy appllcation.
