Implementation of a IR Sensor as a Measurement Device for Smart Farming

Electronics sensors are developed to convert some energy or mechanic to electric signal. Electronics circuit and microcontroller can process the electric signal in order to show output to users. This paper introduces an InfraRed sensor (IR) for egg classification measurement in a small egg farming. The advantages of the IR reflective sensor is a small size, stability, and accuracy. Because of this, we can implement the eggs classification measurement that works on eggs rack. Do not need to load egg one by one into a machine like a general egg classification machines. The smart eggs classification sensor on rack consists of three parts: IR sensor, spring, and acrylic sheet. When the egg is loaded on the machine, the spring is forced. It leads to distance of a reflective device and an acrylic sheet changing. At this point, electronics circuit can collect the electric signal processed by microcontroller in order to show a size of each egg by color of Light Emitting Diodes (LED). Although the smart egg classification is made from the IR reflective sensor, it can work under environments condition of daytime (outdoor and indoor) and nighttime (fluorescent). Accuracy on system is approximately 98%. However, error on the system is round ±0.6 g.
