An Optimization Design Method for the Dual Burning Rate Star Grain

To calculate the burning surface of the dual burning rate star grain in a more efficient and generalized way, a bidirectional coupled SRM performance prediction method, which combined with the burnback simulation and the internal ballistics calculation, was proposed. In this method, burning envelopes of current burning surface with different burning rate in $\Delta$t, were united with boolean operations. So the mass rate flow in $\Delta$t could be coupled in the internal ballistics calculation, which could get more precisely performance curves. Then, using a genetic algorithm, the interface curve between the fast propellant and the slow propellant was optimized. This optimization design processes could find a better design scheme which had a neutral and sliverless burning features. Finally, taking a high loading fraction dual burning rate star grain as the design example, the advantages of dual burning rate star grain and the effectiveness of the optimization design method in this paper were approved.
