Impact of Demand Response on Flexibility Services and Transmission Investment

This paper reports on an ongoing project to determine the effect of demand response growth on flexibility services and transmission investment within the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) region. We describe two aspects of the work: (a) characterization of demand in terms of ability and willingness to provide flexibility services; (b) modeling approach for the MISO system and market to assess effectiveness of demand response portfolios in providing flexibility services. We conclude the paper with a summary of project next steps and a description of expected results of the project at its conclusion.
