Stability of Synchronous Generator for Wind Energy

Today, the stability of electrical machines used with renewable energy sources is a very important task in power systems. The behavior of large synchronous generators after disturbances is considered in detail. This article discusses the appropriate conditions for steady-state operation, after disturbances that appeared as a result of changes in wind speed or due to load fluctuation. It describes the ability of the machine to operate without losing synchronism based on critical rotor angle and critical clearing time of fault removing. Steady-state and dynamic stabilities are also considered, including changes in the rotor angle and system frequency. The obtained simulation results have been used to define the clearing time of the fault and consequently the setting of protection systems, especially circuit breakers.
