A New Method of Detecting Subsurface Metallic Objects

Analysis of common methods of detecting subsurface metallic objects was carried out. It was shown that these conventional methods lack the optimum combination of such characteristics as sensitivity, selectivity, designability and they can't be applied universally. The research group developed a new combined method of subsurface exploration, which makes use of two basic control methods, such as the method registering the reaction of electromagnetic field parameters on the internal or the surface impedance of the environment during the propagation of the electromagnetic field in it and the method registering the reaction of the input impedance of a receiving antenna on electromagnetic properties of the explored environment. When the suggested method is implemented, information is registered by means of three information measuring channels, namely, by the two channels of the receiving ferrite magnetic antenna (to provide measuring of current values of the voltage amplitude of the active and reactive components of the output signal) and by the third channel of the radiating loop antenna to provide measuring of the current value of the excitation current amplitude. It was proved that this method could provide the range extension of the monitored parameters and improve the accuracy of detection of the subsurface objects thus improving its information capacity and enlarging its range of application. This improves the efficiency of the subsurface exploration processes on the whole.
