Modeling, Stability Analysis and Simulation of Buck Converter in a DC Microgrid

Rapid reduction of non-renewable sources of energy is driving development toward sustainability. Increased integration of distributed generation units, including renewable sources of energy and energy storage systems (ESS), has simulated research in new techniques of power generation. At the same time, integration of these distributed generation units in the conventional power generation setup has become challenging. To counteract these challenges, the concept of DC microgrid (DCMG) has been introduced. DCMG incorporates several power converters at the source-side and the load-side. There are certain stability issues related to these power converters that need to be investigated to ensure the overall stability of the DCMG. This paper deals with the design of a simulation platform of a buck converter at the source side of the DCMG. Such a simulation platform will be beneficial to study the stability of the DCMG. The paper also shows the stability analysis of the developed simulation platform and calculation of its sensitivity function for robustness.
